I have many fond memories of the year and a half I lived in Santa Barbara, from April 2005 to August 2006. I lived in a nice apartment complex in Goleta with a swimming pool and jacuzzi. I worked at an engineering company just a few blocks away. Every weekend I rode my bike to Stearn's Wharf in Santa Barbara, all the way downtown on State Street.
Santa Barbara is a beautiful town on the Pacific Ocean, about 100 miles north of Los Angeles along Highway 101. The drive along 101 to and from LA is quite pleasant. Near Santa Barbara, you pass several beaches and you can see the ocean.
There are lots of fun things to do in Santa Barbara. Downtown is quite pleasant. There's a great bar on State Street, just a few blocks from the ocean, called the Santa Barbara Brewing Company. They brew their own beer, which is quite good. They also cook all their dishes with one of their amber beers.
Stearn's Wharf is on the end of State Street. This is a beautiful beach which I used to bike to from my apartment every week. It's about 15 miles from where I lived and took me about two hours to get there. Once I got there, sometimes I'd turn right and ascend up a hill from which I'd get a spectacular view of the ocean.
The food in Santa Barbara is quite excellent. Perhaps my favorite restaurant there is the Tee-Off, a fabulous old steak house located on State Street, about five miles north of downtown.
