I know, I know.......this will surely cause some arguments. That's ok. I was raised in the Quaker Church and I believe that God did, indeed, create the world. Believing is faith, not fact. Not Science. Just.........a KNOWING in my heart that it is true.
Does that mean that I think evolution is a bunch of hooey? Nope. I think God created the Earth. I also think he created man with a keen sense of curiosity about things around us. And a brain to learn about what He created.
It says in the Bible that God created the Heavens and the Earth in seven days. It also says in the Bible that a day to God is 1,000 years to us. Gives us an idea that time is relative in the stories of the Bible, doesn't it?
Now, think about this for a moment. What if God created the Heavens and the Earth? Who says Science and the Evolution Theory isn't just our way of trying to understand the Earth and Heavens He created? Does it say in the Bible that we now look exactly like Adam and Eve? That nothing changes in the Heavens and Earth? That this world is exactly the way it was when God created it? Of course not!
Most people would admit that EVERYTHING changes over time. The changes in plants, animals, people and the earth are a constant thing and exciting to learn about, with Science. Constantly changing and adapting to their surroundings. Becoming better, faster, smarter, bigger, etc. That seems pretty intelligent in its design, doesn't it?
Yet, as much as we have learned from Fossils, Plants, our own written and oral History, we still have a long way to go.
God has given the human race a lot of gifts. Intelligence, curiosity, the ability to adapt to our surroundings and situations. And given us a whole lot of His Grace in letting us stumble along trying to learn about ourselves and our World. I know we must give God a lot of pain. Caused by our disobedience to Him and the Cruel way we treat each other. However, I also believe that God has a great sense of humor and appreciates absurdity. A couple of examples of this:1) Humans are almost identical in DNA to monkeys. 2) Scientists use pigs for experiments because they are very close to humans also. Might almost seem like God's idea of a joke and a comeuppance for humans that think they are so above His other creatures.
From what I have seen, most people seem to think that Creationism and Evolution is an either/or situation. Some people are even torn about it, if they are thinking Christians. Well, don't be torn about it. I see no reason why we can't know in our hearts that God created the Heavens and the Earth and still do everything we can to learn about the whys and wherefores of how things work and how they have evolved. Curiosity and Intelligence are not curses from God, but Blessings. Think of your Belief in God's creation of the world as a Book. And Evolution is the exciting discoveries we make about our world that we write in that Book.
