Maurice White Earth Wind Fire S

With many more people today becoming interested in the ancient art of feng shui, they may be getting a bit confused about what constitutes a true feng shui element and what does not. You can, after all, find thousands of stores online where you can buy feng shui jade, crystals, wind chimes, and even these trees.

Are there trees known specifically as feng shui trees, and what exactly are they? In what ways can they be used, and are there any that are not really important to feng shui? We can answer some of these questions, and afterward you should determine for yourself if a tree is right for you.

The Five Elements

It is likely that most people are familiar with the five elements of feng shui, which are water, wood, fire, metal and earth. These elements appear harmoniously in nature, and can be used to introduce more harmony into the indoor environment. Here is where these trees can be part of the setting. In rooms where you might have placed very strong elemental items, they should be balanced with another complementary element.

One example would be a bright white bathroom, which appears very clean and sanitary, as white is a color related to water, and water is typically associated with cleanliness. Yet with excessive white, a room can give a feeling of sterility, as it is cold and too harsh, like a hospital room Adding a wood element can provide some balance to bring down the extreme white.

Using one small tree can bring some gold and brown into the room. As in a bathroom, the same arrangement can be used in a kitchen, in which while is often favored also for its clean properties and also to make the room seem larger than it is. If you have a smaller home or apartment, using exclusively white to enlarge a room can also have far too much white color, making it seem cold and unwelcoming- not what you would want for the heart of a home!

Fire Element and The Money Tree

You may hear that if you put such a tree somewhere in your home and then string old coins on it, this will bring you wealth. Using the five elements, some money trees may have bright red ribbons tied on them, to overcome the golden brown of the branches. This type of ribbons can add the beautiful element of fire to any area or room that needs some warmth. If you have a living space with a very strong earth element, you can paint portions with warm browns or creams or tans, and use a fire element to accent and add harmony to this room.

There is certainly a place for a feng shui tree, and although it may not automatically bring you prosperity and good luck as you might be led to believe, you will at least enjoy a beautiful accent to your home.
